It is hot, hot hot- so frozen treats line the streets. This one was beside the Currency Exchange Booth we used twice on our stay in Kuala Lumpur.
I was quite surprised by the large Muslim population on the street. Victoria and I were members of the small one-third of women in public NOT wearing a head scarf. Of the women wearing "signifiers" of Islamic faith, these women were much more colourful- at least one-half were in full burka - black- including black gloves. I saw so many beautiful eyes on the streets among women.
Just as an aside, I found the public washrooms quite treacherous because each stall is equipped with what looks like a garden hose - as Muslim women cleanse themselves after using the toilet- which means the toilet seat and surrounding floor is completely soaked with water. Marry that to tile floors and you have a recipe for broken hips. It took me longer to "mop up" the toilet stall in order to use it- than to actually use it.
We ran into a group of University of Malaysia students ( an IT university) that were on a "scavenger hunt" which included getting pictures of as many "tourists" from as many countries as possible. They were THRILLED to find both a Russian and a Canadian in on shot.
The Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations were in full swing in Kuala Lumpur. The decorations were stunning!
The infamous "Petronas Twin Towers and surrounding garden and park. It was a wonderful spot to sit with a cold drink. Here it is by day.
We went back at night, knowing the light show would be spectacular.
We walked to and around the heritage government buildings and found the Kuala Lumpur Municipal Museum. Quite interesting!
It was hot!
Yes, this was our first meal (lunch) besides the fabulous breakfast buffet included in the Melia Hotel price. Victoria- like some of my Canadian friends- (whose names will be protected here )- has many food restrictions. So, hot, hungry, and thirsty- we found a "safe" place for her to eat.
I can't remember the last time I ate a "fillet-o-fish". (I have yet to find the "salad options" in McD's in Asia that we find in Canada. "Salad" is just not a big seller, I guess). But, dinner was much better!
We found "Hong Kong" restaurant and I ordered the "Japanese- inspired seafood rice bowl. It came in a hot ceramic bowl that continued to cook the food as I ate. It was both heat-hot and spicy-hot. It was FABULOUS!. Victoria enjoyed her Korean Fried Noodle dish.
