I have been meaning to post this for about a month. My original plan was to move to an apartment of my own around this time of the year, to allow friends and family to visit and save $$$$ on hotel bills. After tons of research and advice and weighing the "pros and cons"- I have decided to stay put.
Finding an apartment in Shanghai is not an easy task - unless you want to pay huge rents. I have found several lovely furnished places, but they are too far from work- I refuse to do a long commute with such an early schedule- and they cost my monthly salary ( 9,000 rmb+).
At the Dorm, it is clean, safe, quiet and free. In an apartment, I would have to worry about paying utilities, - and I have heard horror stories about "absent" landlords if your fridge breaks, the heat stops - or you have cockroaches.
By staying here, it also allows me to subsidize my kids' trips - if they can arrange holidays, etc.
But, I have found inexpensive hotels five minutes from where I live - seriously - $40.00 U.S. per night - I can buy you a Metro card - give you my Metro Map and send you to some of the most spectacular places in my host city. Weekends, I can join you!
So, if you ant to come………………..
