Still without Internet/ smart phone.
Met with colleagues and my "boss" at the campus today. After a meeting with "Cissy", she took me to an "interview session" with local university students reading a random paragraph. Cissy and I then "selected" two students for part-time teaching jobs. Weird!!!!
I was asked to give a 40 minute lecture to faculty next week on "teaching methodologies"- holy crow!
The bus ride to my campus from my Dorm is about 20 minutes and pretty direct. A five minute walk from bus stop. Received curriculum materials for my 18 classes per week ( 45 minutes each). My students include "Pre-Junior"- Grade 6; Junior 2- Grade 8; Senior 1- Grade 10 and Senior 2- Grade 11. I am told games, songs, group work, etc for the Juniors- with lots of oral participation. The Senior groups have fantastic books that are super- interesting and filled with Western historical moments - yeah! They all wear uniforms that are very cute- and the kids are shy and sweet. Actually "start" proper on Monday September 16th.
All five days begin with an 8:05 a.m class. I have two and three-hour breaks between groups on all days. Ate at the "Canteen" with my Canteen card. Great, fresh, plentiful food. I had to get a take-home container.( I LOVE leftovers).
Late afternoon, I walked back up to my favourite (huge) mall with another list of things I need.Went to exit only to discover a severe lightening and thunder storm outside. Waited 20 minutes and thought "what the hell". With umbrella in hand and purchases covered well in plastic bag, I set out. Sewers don't work. Walked through 1 1/2 feet of rainwater at times to get home. Hoping there are no small cuts on my feet - because oh man- who knows what washed up on the sidewalks. Think the opening scenes of Blade Runner- dark, crowded, rainy and a shit-load of umbrellas. when I reached residence I was laughing like crazy. The security man at the entrance thinks I'm nuts anyway. Hot bath. wiped feet with sterilized wipes. Hoping for the best.
Lightening continues outside- and low rolling thunder that lasts for (what seems like ) ten minutes. Candles burning. Waiting for power failure
Wow! You've really jumped into it! You "hired" people??? And you are presenting on methodology?? Good luck! So your residence isn't directly on the campus? I thought it would be. I guess you are figuring out the transit system then. Your students will be young! Wow, grade 6, thats 11! That will be interesting. Sounds like a huge adventure! Your Blade Runner comment made me laugh out loud!
